An Apache tale : Two Wolves

One evening an old Apache told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

“One is Evil – It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is the Spirit – It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

Serveur Kimsufi 500G

“What are the differences between Mark Zuckerberg and me ?

I give private information on corporations to you for free and I’m a villain.

Zuckerberg gives your private information to corporations for money and he’s Man of the Year.”

Bill Hader (impersonating Julian Assange) on SNL

nombre-30

Happy Birthday Matt : 30

nombre 30

I was thirty. Before me stretched the portentous, menacing road of a new decade.
The Great Gatsby, Francis Scott Fitzgerald

Jake La Motta: “did you fuck my wife ?” (Raging Bull)

Jake La Motta (Robert De Niro): Did you fuck my wife ?

Joey La Motta (Joe Pesci): What ?!

Jake La Motta: Did you fuck my wife ?

Joey La Motta: [pauses, looks insulted] How could you ask me a question like that ? How could you ask me ? I’m your brother. You ask me that ? Where do you get your balls big enough to ask me that ?

Jake La Motta: [cooly] Just tell me.

Joey La Motta: I’m not answerin’ ya. I’m not gonna answer that. It’s stupid.

Jake La Motta: You’re very smart Joey. You give me all these answers, but you ain’t givin’ me the right answer. I’m askin’ ya again. Did you or did you not?

Joey La Motta: [frightened but controlled] I’m not gonna answer. That’s a sick question, you’re a sick fuck, and I’m not that sick that I’m gonna answer it. I’m not tellin’ ya anything… I’m gonna leave.

If Lenore calls, tell her I went home. I’m not staying in this nuthouse with you, you’re a sick mess, I feel sorry for ya, I really do. You know what you should do ? Try a little more fuckin’ and a little less eatin’. You won’t have troubles upstairs in your bedroom and you won’t pick it up on me and everybody else.

Do you understand, you fuckin’ wacko? You’re crackin’ up! Fuckin’ screwball, ya ! [walks out the door]

From Raging Bull, 1980.

Navigating Life’s Storms: 20 Thoughts to Get You Through (Almost) Any Crisis

Life is a rollercoaster ride, filled with ups and downs, twists and turns. Inevitably, we all face crises – those moments when the world seems to be crashing down around us, and we’re left feeling overwhelmed, lost, and uncertain. Whether it’s a personal tragedy, a professional setback, or a global upheaval, these challenges can shake us to our core. However, it’s during these trying times that we must find the strength and resilience to persevere.

Here are 20 thoughts to help you navigate life’s storms and emerge stronger on the other side.

Embrace flexibility and adaptability

  1. “Indecision is the key to flexibility.” In times of crisis, rigidity can be our downfall. Embrace the fluidity of the situation and be willing to adapt your plans and strategies as circumstances evolve.
  2. “There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation.” While preparation is often lauded, sometimes the unexpected happens, and we must learn to roll with the punches. Embrace the chaos and trust your ability to think on your feet.

Reframe your perspective

  1. “Happiness is merely the remission of pain.” Crises can be painful, but they are also temporary. Recognize that happiness is not the absence of suffering but the ability to find joy and meaning in the midst of it.
  2. “Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.” Don’t get caught up in romanticizing the past. Focus on the present moment and the opportunities it holds, even amid adversity.
  3. “The facts, although interesting, are irrelevant.” Emotions can run high in a crisis, and logic may take a backseat. Don’t get bogged down by the details; trust your instincts and make decisions based on what feels right.

Embrace the unconventional

  1. “The careful application of terror is also a form of communication.” Sometimes, a crisis demands bold and unconventional actions. Don’t be afraid to shake things up and challenge the status quo.
  2. “Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world.” While logic has its place, crises often defy rational explanations. Embrace the chaos and trust your intuition.
  3. “Things are more like they are today then they have ever been before.” Crises can make the world feel unfamiliar and uncertain. Recognize that change is constant, and the present moment is always unique.

Embrace determination and resilience

  1. “Anything worth fighting for is worth fighting dirty for.” In a crisis, the stakes are high, and you may need to play by different rules. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and do whatever it takes to overcome the challenge.
  2. “Everything should be made as simple as possible but no simpler.” While crises can be complex, don’t overcomplicate matters. Break things down into manageable steps and focus on the essentials.
  3. “Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate.” In times of crisis, you’ll learn who your true allies are. Cherish those who stand by you, but be wary of those who seek to undermine your efforts.

Maintain a sense of humour and perspective

  1. “I have seen the truth and it makes no sense.” Crises can defy logic and reason. Embrace the absurdity of the situation and find humour in the chaos.
  2. “Suicide is the most sincere form of self-criticism.” While crises can be overwhelming, don’t be too hard on yourself. Recognize that self-care and self-compassion are essential for weathering the storm.
  3. “If you think that there is good in everybody, you haven’t met everybody.” Crises can bring out the best and worst in people. Maintain a healthy skepticism and protect yourself from those who may seek to exploit the situation.
  4. “If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.” A little humour can go a long way in diffusing tension and maintaining perspective. Don’t be afraid to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Embrace the cyclical nature of Life

  1. “One-seventh of your life is spent on Monday.” Crises can feel like an endless slog, but remember that they are temporary. Every day is a new opportunity to start fresh.
  2. “By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.” Just when you think you’ve got a handle on things, the goalposts shift. Embrace the ever-changing nature of life and be prepared to adapt.
  3. “Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.” While crises can be grave, don’t take yourself too seriously. Maintain a sense of humour and perspective, and remember that laughter can be the best medicine.
  4. “There is always one more imbecile than you counted on.” Crises can bring out the best and worst in people. Be prepared for unexpected obstacles and challenges, and don’t be discouraged by those who fail to rise to the occasion.
  5. “The older I get, the faster I was.” Time has a way of distorting our perceptions. Embrace the present moment and don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. Focus on what you can control and take things one step at a time.

In the midst of a crisis, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, lost, and uncertain. But by embracing flexibility, reframing your perspective, embracing the unconventional, maintaining determination and resilience, finding humour and perspective, and recognizing the cyclical nature of life, you can navigate even the most turbulent storms.

Remember, crises are temporary, and with the right mindset and approach, you can emerge stronger, wiser, and more resilient than ever before.
